The Poultry Research Foundation (PRF) and the Australian Branch of the World’s Poultry Science Association (WPSA) are delighted to announce the Australian Young Poultry Scientist Award; a new initiative celebrating the next generation of poultry scientists in Australia.
The award has its roots in the Syd Wilkins Memorial Fund, originally established by WPSA in 1983 to support and recognise young scientists making a contribution to poultry research. Revisiting this legacy has provided an opportunity for PRF and WPSA Australia to establish a new award that reflects the important role young researchers play in the future of our industry and science community.
The winner will receive $5,000, jointly funded by WPSA Australia and PRF, to support a professional activity such as attending a conference, undertaking professional training, publishing research, or another activity that contributes to their professional development. The award is open to poultry scientists under 35 years of age who are based in Australia, or who have undertaken their research in Australia. Candidates will be recognised for their research achievements, broader contribution to poultry science, and the quality and impact of a nominated research or review paper on which they are the lead author.
More than simply recognising an individual achievement, the award is intended to encourage and support the people who will shape the future of poultry science in Australia.
Applications for the inaugural award are now open and close on 30 October 2026. Self-nominations are welcome. Applicants should submit the completed nomination form and supporting documents to [email protected] . The nomination form and full award rules are available in the files below.
